18 MART ÇAN

Çan Thermal Power Plant is located between Kulfa and Yaya villages of Çan district within the borders of Çanakkale province. The power plant site is 12 km from the Çan - Çanakkale highway to the town of Çan and 3.5 km from the coal mine site.

18 Mart Çan Thermal Power Plant was included in the investment program in 1996 in order to utilize the approximately 70 million tons of high sulfur-containing lignite reserves available in the region in electricity generation and to meet the increasing energy needs of our country. The units were put into commercial operation in 2006. 18 Mart Çan Thermal Power Plant has a power of 2 x 160 MW and the design annual production capacity of the power plant is 2,080,000,000 kWh. By adding limestone to the combustion process, the "Desulphurization Process" takes place directly inside the boiler. Thanks to this technology, in addition to eliminating the harm that the power plant may cause to the environment in terms of gas, the efficiency of the power plant is increased and cheaper energy production is provided.
