ATATÜRK HEPP

Atatürk Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant was built on the Euphrates River at a distance of 62 km from Şanlıurfa and 48 km from Adıyaman, and is the most important and largest facility of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). It is Turkey's largest power plant with a total installed power of 2405 MW, with 8 generators of 300 MW each and an auxiliary unit of 5 MW power, and its annual production capacity is foreseen as 8 billion 100 million kWh.

The construction of Atatürk Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant, which was established in the Euphrates Basin for the purpose of energy generation and irrigation, started in 1983 and the first unit of the Power Plant was put into operation in 1992. Atatürk Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant were constructed by a Turkish company, workers and engineers. 

The body volume of the dam, which was built in clay core rockfill arch type, is 84.500.000 m³, the crest length is 1.664 m, and the body height is 184 m. The maximum operating level is 542 m, and the lake volume at this elevation is 48.823 hm³ and the lake area is 817 km².
