BORÇKA HEPP

Borçka Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant was built on the Çoruh River, 30 km from Artvin city center and 5 km from Borçka district centre. It has a total installed power of 300.6 MW with 2 generators, each of which is 150.3 MW, and its annual generation capacity is estimated as 1 billion 39 million kWh.

The construction of Borçka Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the Çoruh Basin, started in 1999 and was commissioned in 2007. The body volume of the dam, which was built in zoned fill type with a central clay core, is 7,785,000 m³, its body height is 146 m, and its crest length is 728 m. The construction works of the dam with a lake volume of 415 hm³ were carried out by Va Tech Elin, VaTech Voest, Verbundplan and Voith Sulzer.
